Q. Do Garage Doors Require Maintenance?
A. We recommend you have your garage door inspected every 6 months.
Make sure the company that installs your door gives you a thorough
evaluation and preforms routine maintenance as needed.
Q. Do I need to replace the whole door or can I replace a section of
my door?
A. It is possible in many cases to replace a section of your garage door
depending upon the damage involved to the garage door system.
Q. Will a garage door and opener work in a garage with low ceiling?
A. Yes. A minimum of 4 1/2" of headroom space is required for a residential
door. Your system will need a low headroom torsion track. Slightly more
headroom is needed, about 6 1/2" minimum for a garage door opener.
Q. What kind of Garage Door Opener Accessories are there?
A. There is a broad range of opener accessories from remote controls to
wireless keypads depending on the model you choose.
Q. What are Torsion Springs?
A. Torsion springs are tightly wound coils of metal above the garage door.
They counterbalance the weight of the door, and the stress they are
under as a result of being wound so tight make it easier for the door to be
raised. When repairing or replacing your garage door, DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO REMOVE TORSION SPRINGS. The enormous pressure
they are under can, if handled improperly can whip out and seriously
injure or kill you.
Q. Can I paint my steel garage door?
A. It is possible to paint a steel garage door. Most come with baked-on paint
which lasts a very long time, but if you don't like the color or are trying to
cover up damage, make sure you use latex paint. Oil paint will bubble and
eventually peel off.
Q. What is R-Value and how does it benefit me?
A. R-value is a standardized measurement of thermal efficiency. The higher
the R-value, the greater the insulating properties. CHI manufactures
insulated doors with a broad range of R-values designed to meet your
needs. Our Thermacore doors offer our highest R-values - 14+
Q. My Door goes down about 5-6 inches and then comes right back
up. Whats wrong?
A. This is a clear sign that your safety eyes are out of alignment and need to
be re-aligned.
Q. My power is out and I need to get my car out of the garage. What
do I do?
A. You must pull the emergency release cord. This will enable you to use the
door manually, and once power has been restored, the opener needs to
be re-engaged.
Q. My opener is making a humming sound and I see white dust. What
could be wrong?
A. This tells us that the gears are becoming worn and need to be replaced.
Q. What horsepower garage door opener do I need to lift my door?
A. Generally speaking, if you have a two car garage door, you can use
either a 1/2 hp opener or for heavy wood doors, we recommend a 3/4 hp.
Remember that the easier it is to open the door manually, the easier it will
be for the garage door opener to open the door and that means the
longer your garage door opener will last.
Q. Which model is better, the chain drive, the belt drive or the screw
drive?
A. Each garage door opener has its advantages. The chain drive and belt
drive are good in all applications, and the screw drive is best used on one
piece doors that tilt rather than go up on a track. The screw drive runs a
little slower than the other two garage door openers.
The belt drive is the quietest garage door opener and would be
recommended for garages that have a room above them.
Q. How do I program my Wireless Keyless Entry System?
A. There are two models of the Wireless Keyless Entry System, the 66LM
and the 976LM. The 976LM is for use only with Security+® garage door
openers having an orange/red smart/learn button. The 66LM will work
with all openers manufactured since 1990 that have a yellow, white, gray,
or green smart/learn button. It will not work with Security+® openers.
To program the keyless entry, first locate the smart/learn button. On our
chain drive models, this button is on the end farthest from the door. On
our belt and screw drive models, it is on the right side as you face the
door from the opener. You simply press and release the smart/learn
button. You now have 30 seconds to enter your four digit PIN number
into the keypad and hold the enter button for five seconds. Wait one
minute and test the keyless entry by entering your four-digit PIN number
and pressing enter.
With some Security+® models, you can also program your Model 976LM
Wireless Keyless Entry without climbing a ladder, right from your
Multi-Function Control Panel. Simply enter your pre-selected code and
press and hold the enter button on your Keyless Entry. Then press and
hold the light button and the pushbutton on your Multi-Function Control
Panel. The garage door opener lights will flash to confirm that the
Keyless Entry has been successfully programmed.
Q. How can I program my opener to work with my Homelink® system?
A. Some vehicles may require the ignition be turned on or the vehicle
actually be running to program the Homelink transceiver.
Q. How long will I have to wait after I have placed my order?
A. This depends on the type of garage door you have ordered. If it is a
standard door and we are installing, then you would generally have to
wait 2-3 weeks. Wood Carriage House doors would take 3 weeks. If we
are supplying from stock and installing it could be as little as 48 hours.
Q. How long will the actual installation take?
A. We do try to always plan for the installation to be completed the same day
to ensure security even if there are several garage doors on your house.
Q. Do we need to be there when you install the garage door?
A. It is not necessary for you to be present for the whole of the installation
but we do like you to be there on completion to allow us to give you a full
demonstration of the door/operator and to hand over remote controls or
keys.
